How to run both without doubling the work

  1. 1

    Edit once, export twice

Same cut, two exports. Never download from one platform and upload to the other — visible watermarks get deprioritised.

  2. 2

    Rewrite the opening for Shorts

Shorts viewers often arrive from search, so naming the subject in the first line helps. Reels rewards a more curiosity-led opening.

  3. 3

Title Shorts like a search result

Shorts have titles and they matter. Write what someone would type, not a caption.

  4. 4

    Move captions inward

The interface covers different areas on each platform. Keep text within the central 80% and both are safe.

Frequently asked questions

Can we post the exact same video to both?

Yes, as long as you export clean files from your editor rather than re-downloading. A different title and opening line for Shorts will perform better, but the same footage is fine.

Which grows a following faster?

Reels usually shows faster follower growth; Shorts usually produces more durable total views. If followers are your goal, Reels; if traffic and search presence are the goal, Shorts.

Do we need a separate YouTube strategy?

Only if you want long-form. Shorts alone works as a standalone channel, though pairing them with a handful of long-form videos lets Shorts viewers go deeper, which is where YouTube's advantage compounds.

What about TikTok?

TikTok is not available in India, so for domestic brands the choice is Reels and Shorts. If you sell internationally, the same vertical assets work there with minimal changes.
